In October 2019, the renovation and expansion project of Urumqi Diwopu International Airport officially started. It is the largest single building construction project in Xinjiang, with a total investment of 20.95 billion yuan, including the construction of a new terminal building of 500,000 square meters and two runways over 3,000 meters. It is expected to be completed in 2023. The terminal area can meet the passenger throughput of 48 million in 2025, and the flight area can meet the passenger throughput of 63 million in 2030.
